East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN)
In 2011 Derby, Leicester and Nottingham Caribbean Carnivals and Northampton Carnival formalised a partnership through the creation of East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN).
EMCCAN's Virtual Carnival
Due to recent circumstances resulting from COVID-19 we have expanded our ways engaging with our audiences. By creating this website it allows us to showcase ourselves and our four cities which are within the originally partnership (Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Northampton).
EMCCAN has successfully become an Arts Council England national portfolio organisation and is established as a not-for-profit community interest company.
We have created a virtual carnival atmosphere! Our virtual tents give our audiences the choice to exploring the vast variety of carnival activates. From previous and presenting touring events, the four annual carnivals/cities, our annual carnival king and queen show, the artists we collaborate with and other activates and projects we engage ourselves in.
In 2011 Derby, Leicester and Nottingham Caribbean Carnivals and Northampton Carnival formalised a partnership through the creation of East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN). Since then they have worked together to provide mutual support, and also to enhance the development of Caribbean carnival and carnival with a Caribbean flavour in the East Midlands.
EMCCAN nowadays supports and encourages better practice and increases artistic and management quality for East Midlands Caribbean carnivals and provides leadership to the wider carnival sector. The Directors of EMCCAN comprise two volunteer representatives from each Carnival and four independent members and the organisation is supported by Chief Executive, Donna Fox, based at The Quad in Derby. Additionally, in the last few years, EMCCAN has successfully become an Arts Council England national portfolio organisation and is established as a not-for-profit community interest company.
